The Greater Olean area (which includes the City of Olean, the Town of Allegany, and the Town of Olean) was designated as the center of a new Empire Development Zone in 1987 and the Cattaraugus Economic Development Zone Corporation was established. It was one of the first 10 zones in New York State. Now called the Cattaraugus Empire Zone (CEZ), it is approximately two square miles in size with acreage throughout Cattaraugus County. Many parcels of this land are located in the greater Olean area.
The CEZ currently holds around 254 certified businesses as members. Successful private projects have ranged from major manufacturing expansions to retail and other commercial projects. A new two-story state of the art brick YMCA was completed at 1101 Wayne Street, right off I-86. This gorgeous facility received more than $750,000 in tax credits from the CEZ, which helped it to meet its goal of $3 million to construct the new building. The YMCA is CEZ certified and has flourished since its completion inSeptember 2004.
The Cattaraugus Empire Zone offers new and existing companies many great opportunities for growth and expansion. Facilities located within the CEZ enjoy a healthy business atmosphere with the necessary tools to succeed in the greater Olean area. As you will see, we have much to offer as a designated Empire Zone.
